The Neurodivergent Advantage that Changes Everything
Ladies, what if I told you that entrepreneurs with ADHD are 500% more likely to start businesses than their neurotypical counterparts?
Dr. Jennifer Dall, ADHD coach and former educator, discovered this while navigating her own late-in-life diagnosis. After years of being told "not you, you do all these things," she finally understood why her mind worked differently - and why that difference is actually a business superpower.
So what if we stop trying to fit the mold?
Instead of fighting your brain's natural patterns, work with them. When you can hyperfocus on exciting projects for hours but struggle with mundane tasks, recognise this as evidence of interest-based motivation, not evidence you're broken. Even the most successful neurodivergent entrepreneurs still have 25-item to-do lists - but they've learned to say "B work is okay, and it's probably better than I think it is."
Outsource the pain points, amplify your strengths
When Dr. Dall realised that bookkeeping was "painful" while creative ideation came naturally, she didn't force herself to become better at spreadsheets. Instead, she hired someone who gets her neurodivergent needs and handles the "boring stuff" while she focuses on creating content that helps people.
The breakthrough isn't in becoming well-rounded - it's in becoming strategically lopsided. Your business can soar when you stop trying to excel at everything and start leveraging what makes you different.
When you hit those tasks that feel physically difficult to complete, ask yourself: "Is this something I need to get better at, or something I need to delegate?" Your time might be better spent in your zone of genius while someone else handles their zone of genius.
Create communication bridges, not barriers
"We're not just arguing because we're being difficult. We're not understanding each other. It's like we're speaking another language in certain ways." The most successful neurodivergent entrepreneurs have learned to translate between different thinking styles.
This means getting specific about expectations. Instead of "clean the office," try "put all papers in the filing cabinet and clear the desk surface." Instead of vague project timelines, break down exactly what success looks like. The clarity benefits everyone, not just neurodivergent team members.
The wisdom isn't in hiding your differences - it's in helping others understand how you work best so they can work with you, not against you.
Listen to Dr. Dall's complete journey from struggling educator to thriving entrepreneur, including her strategies for time management and building systems that actually stick.
